Pierce Arrow Brings Back Teenage Memories

1936 Pierce Arrow

Funny the things you do when you’re young. When we were sixteen a buddy and I would clamber into the front seat of an early-30′s sedan sitting on a local used car lot. Neither of us could drive though we’d take turns pretending. I was impressed by its long hood and stately appearance, even more so by the headlights, flared into the fenders to create an aerodynamic effect, something I’d never seen in an automobile from that era. Many years later I came to appreciate the Pierce Arrow – so easily identified by those unique headlight nacelles – and today, of course, the marque is a much-desired classic. Thus it was probably inevitable that I’d take this photo in a preview tent at Pebble Beach, prior to the 1936 sedan being offered in a Kruse International auction. I can’t imagine it selling for less than $150,000, whereas the Pierce Arrow in which Chuck Downer and I played out our fantasies those many years ago could have been bought for a mere $175. Hey… what did we know?

  • I was checking out some sites from the SEMA show in Vegas and there is one that has a bunch of pictures of cars from the show…Thought this one was sort of cool and had a modern “classic” look…There are a bunch of great pics there, too…
