Vintage Racing
by Philip Powell on May 30, 2007
I've driven a few laps of Mission Raceway's River's Edge road circuit in a Porsche 911 with famous endurance racer Hurley Haywood in the passenger's seat. I was told that Hurley had a habit of yelling at drivers who weren't performing up to his standards but in my case he kept quiet, so I must have been doing something right. This is by way of telling you that if you live in BC or Washington the VRCBC Rivers Edge Vintage Series will take place on June 3rd and that this track, more suited to handling than flat-out speed, is ideal for vintage racing. It's a nice spot for spectating, too, and being located in one of the world's beauty spots (southwest British Columbia) just adds to the pleasure. The Vintage Racing Club of BC hands out neither trophies nor cash prizes, apparently to discourage drivers from taking unnecessary chances; it's all about vintage cars being driven at speed in friendly competitions. Thanks to Vintage Motorsport magazine's helpful calendar for this event reminder.
