My friend and vintage insurance guru Nigel Matthews recently sent a raft of interesting links and articles. One that caught my eye immediately is what you see here, a superbly restored 1937 Tatra T77. Owned by John Long of Toronto, this T77 is the only one in North America and one of only two restored examples in a private collection. John hopes his car will be accepted for the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours; an honour it certainly appears to deserve. He describes the T77 as “a coachbuilt automobile built on a central tube frame with a lightweight aluminum-magnesium alloy 3.4-litre air-cooled V-8 engine in the rear… the smooth body gave an aerodynamic CD of just .212.” The car was found in Russia and took five years to restore. Czechoslovakia’s Tatra is the third oldest automobile manufacturer in the world and still produces trucks.
