Road Love

Rational people might wonder why some of us fall in love with roads but we car enthusiasts do have an affection for certain biways and highways. We romanticise them through books, film, and songs; even create TV series based on a legendary strip of asphalt. Travel, mystery, the urge for adventure... the feeling that beyond the next bend is the answer to our dreams; these are the things that make a road
meaningful to the wanderers among us. Reason enough to note that America's most historic road, Route 66, will be the focus of a special exhibition at the Elmhurst Art Museum in Elmhurst, Illinois, from July 22 to September 10, featuring photographs taken by Shellee Graham. "Like many people, I have a deep feeling of nostalgia for this road. After several years of driving and photographing Route 66, I organized this exhibition of photographs with accompanying text. A pictorial journey details the highway's history, forgotten towns, roadside diners, motels and people" states the artist. Can't make it to Elmhurst? Not to worry. The exhibit is part of an 18 city national tour that will take place over a three and a half year period.Permalink: Road Love
