Ah, those lucky Brits. Yes, here I go again, praising our cousins from across the Atlantic for their ability to produce phenomenal vintage events when we have some great ones in North America but this is better than great... it's sensational! I'm referring to the Vintage Sports-Car Club's "See Red" weekend at the Donington Park circuit on Sept 15-16, 2007. To give you a sample, here's a headline just posted to the club's Web site: Now confirmed to appear! The Mercedes Benz W125 from the 1937 Donington Grand Prix!

On that day in '37 the mighty Auto-Union and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix teams showed up to do battle with the best from England and Italy.

That alone should be enough to attract any racing fan but there's much more: 20 Edwardian race cars; 15 pre-war Bugattis racing for the Williams Trophy against an Alfa Romeo P3, an Aston Martin and a Frazer Nash Nurburgring; the ex-Hans Reusch Alfa Romeo 8C-35 in which he won the 1936 Donington Grand Prix with co-driver Richard Seaman; 31 cars competing in a race for 1.5 liter F1 cars built before 1966 including ex-F1 pilot Richard Atwood in a BRM P261; a special race featuring 24 F1 cars from 1967 - 1984; the British Racing Drivers Club 1950's Sports Car Race; "Sports Racing Masters" competing in a 1-hour competition including Shaun Lynn and Chris Ball driving Ford GT40s and Julian Bronson in a 1965 McLaren MB1.

There's plenty of off-track activity to keep you amused as well. Air displays will feature a Spitfire plus an Antonov biplane; an indoor show of 'Racing Car Oddities and Delights' from the Past 100 Years; a classic Concours; Ferrari Owners Club display; Veteran and Edwardian Grand Prix Rally; trade exhibition; and a classic car party sponsored by Classic and Sports Car Magazine. Now tell me, wouldn't you rather be in England on those magical dates... seeing Red with the Vintage Sports-Car Club?
