Somewhere Over the Rainbow…

Somewhere Over the Rainbow...

So you think you’ve seen some fancy multi-colored paint jobs? Well, friend, you’ve never seen anything like this, photographed at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours. I wish I could tell you the marque and more details but frankly I’m a lousy reporter (which is probably why most of my career was spent in the creative departments of ad agencies in Toronto, New York and London, rather than writing for the New York Times). So once again I’m calling on our viewers to add any useful information. Two-toning, three-toning; such techniques were popular in the 1950′s and 1960′s yet obviously there was a time when one or more colors were not enough. The paint-scheme may seem bizarre, however it is tastily applied and in my opinion, more elegant than the works of the great George Barris. (Note: since writing this, the mystery has been solved. • The mystery is solved regarding this rainbow car! It is an original factory paint scheme. The car is a 1930 Ruxton Sedan owned by the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, California. The paint scheme was chosen to give the illusion that the car was actually longer than it truly was. It won the first in class award in Class D (American Classic Closed 1924-1941) Cheers Nigel
