Spectacular Talbot-Lago Last Minute Addition to Monterey Auction

With so many great cars on display at the 2009 Monterey classics festival and with several competing auctions happening, you wouldn't think anyone could come up with a last-minute gem. But RM Auctions has managed to snare a truly spectacular automobile, one that's estimated to bring $1,500,000 - $2,000,000 USD. And what could be worth that much? This ex-Louis Rosier 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Roadster. Just three such Talbot-Lagos were originally fitted with gorgeous art deco coachwork by Figoni & Falaschi; this one, however, was rebodied after the war for its second owner, the legendary gentleman racer and five-time French national driving champion, Louis Rosier. Initially he'd simply removed the fenders, lights and windscreen, but in its new Grand Prix guise the Talbot-Lago became a formidable competitor, securing a number of victories, including an overall win at the Grand Prix of Albi and a fourth place finish at the Grand Prix de France. Other noteable owners include Charles Huc, Pierre Bardinon and Jean Serre - a great French collector who owned the car for more than 40 years. You can see more photos and learn more about this beautiful racer by clicking on this link or just show up on Aug 13-15 at the Portola Hotel and Spa and Monterey Conference Center with a big, fat wallet.
