Speed and Spectacle at 2007 Goodwood Revival
Filed in archive Vintage Racing by Philip Powell on September 08, 2007

With so many great vintage race meets happening around the world these days it's difficult, if not impossible, to claim that one or another is best. But ask anyone who's had the opportunity to witness a few events and inevitably the Goodwood Revival is near the top of their list. Why? Well, for one thing it takes place on an historic English circuit in a beautiful setting. For another, it brings together some of the most famous names
from yesteryear with the quickest of current vintage car drivers. Not surprisingly the variety of sports, formula, and sedan racers from all eras is outstanding (see above photo of Cobras dicing for first place). In case that's not enough to amuse you, crews and spectators dress in period costumes, off-track displays are entertaining, and this year a Concours d'Elegance of historic aircraft was mounted in the paddock, accompanied by a flyover of British and WW2 fighter planes. Even if you're not a vintage racing enthusiast, or a race fan at all, I urge you to visit the Classic Driver newsletter site for the story of this year's Goodwood Revival, which took place last weekend. The photographs alone make it worthwhile.[Photo: Roger Dixon / Goodwood]
