Stamps Glorify an Era of American Sports Cars
Filed in archive Automotive Art by Philip Powell on April 12, 2006
I've never collected postage stamps, though I do have a couple featuring Canadian steam locomotives plus a few of the somewhat-rare Gilles Villeneuve F1 stamps. But I'm sorely tempted to lay out a mere $7.40 for a set released in 2005 which the US Postal Service identifies with the rather awkward title, America on the Move 50s: Sporty Cars. The five stamps, featuring a 53 Studebaker Starliner, 53 Corvette, 54 Kaiser Darrin, 52 Nash Healey and 55 ford thunderbird
, were created by legendary automotive illustrator Art Fitzpatrick, whose works were often seen in car ads of the period. You can also purchase a signed print by the 86-year-old artist from his own site, fitz-art.com.Permalink: Stamps Glorify an Era of American Sports Cars
