Steamworks Report No.6: 1953 Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon
Filed in archive Concours by Philip Powell on September 6, 2006
It is rare
, indeed, to see an unrestored woodie in this condition. The owners, Harvey and Betty McEwan of White Rock, B.C., say it has only been maintained and that the paint, wood, and interior are original. "Maintained" is perhaps an understatement, as the wood in these vehicles has a tendency to deteriorate over the years. Restoration can be very expensive. The Buick Roadmaster was the last "real" wood-bodied wagon manufactured in North America... after that it was all fakery. 1953 was a year for Buick firsts, however, including an overhead-valve V-8, 4-barrel carburetor, and power steering. A mere 670 woodie wagons were made, 12 are believed to have survived.Permalink: Steamworks Report No.6: 1953 Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon
