Concours
by Philip Powell on September 6, 2006
For many years I had little interest in vehicles from the antique era. That narrow view changed, fortunately, when I began studying automotive history and became aware of the poor road conditions drivers faced in those years. With this new-found respect I'm now drawn to antique and brass era cars whenever they appear in Concours d'Elegance, as I was to the magnificent 1913 Peerless. But what made this Peerless even more fascinating was that, except for paint and a new top, it has never been restored. Everything else is original. It was purchased in Vancouver and driven by one family until 1931, after which it was stored in a basement until 1971. The "Torpedo" has a 137-inch wheelbase and a 577 c.i. engine, and is regularly used for vintage touring by its present owners.
