TC Tops List of Worst Car Collaborations

Chrysler TC

With so much interest being shown in the proposed merger of GM with Nissan and Renault, Autoblog thought it might be amusing to examine the the five worst results of collaborations between automakers. Top on its list is the Chrysler TC, in which a Chrysler LeBaron on a K-Car chassis was worked over by Maserati to produce a vehicle almost no one liked. It had some nice touches, such as hand-building in Italy and a handsome interior, but the domestic underpinnings spoiled any illusions of European finesse. Though the engine began life as a 2.2 liter Chrysler four it had many international components. For example, the cylinder head was cast in England by Cosworth and finished in Italy by Maserati, while the pistons came from Mahle in Germany and the turbocharger was Japanese. During the TC’s last two years the four was replaced by a mitsubishi V-6. Although too new to be a collector I think that someday the TC may increase in value; it’s attractive and certainly unique. Buy one now and tell your friends how you purchased a “Maserati” for a song! Can anyone suggest a less appealing marriage than this?
