The 1957 Chevy Convertible Lives Again!

New 57 Chevy

One of the auto world's many urban legends claims that when the 1957 Chevrolet went out of production a bunch of GM workers spirited away the last few examples, keeping them hidden until that magic day when they'd be offered to enthusiasts. Of course the legend is nonsense, but the 1957 Chevy Convertible is once again in production. Not by GM but by a much smaller company: "CARS Inc." The project actually began in the late 1970's when CARS Inc. started making replacement body and floor parts for restorers. As the business grew, so did the demand for more and different parts, including restoration interiors, until finally it was decided that a 1957 Chevrolet Convertible body could be offered to builders as well as a complete turn-key car. Thus the urban legend becomes a reality! (Well, almost.) By the way, I must give credit to the power of advertising, for I wouldn't have known about "CARS Inc." until I opened the pages of "Hemmings Classic Car's" December issue and spotted the "new" 57 Chevy in a full-page ad.
