French Cars
by Philip Powell on November 8, 2007

Last summer I did a feature on the Voisin that Mercedes-Benz 300SL restorer Rudi Konikzek has tucked away in a secret location. A runner and complete in every detail, it will eventually be restored to perfection. Now Jalopnik favors us with an article about Gabriel Voisin and his 1935 C28 Aerosport. Originally an aircraft designer, Voisin applied aerodynamic principles and weight reduction to the cars his company manufactured and it shows. Having seen it in person at Pebble Beach I agree with Jalopnik's editor when he says the C28 looks fantastic and I would also add that it appears to have inspired some contemporary cars such as the Chrysler 300 although in my opinion Voisin's car is much more attractive than Chrysler's big box. Regardless of whether you agree with me I encourage you to read this story and discover why lesser-known classics are sometimes more significant than the so-called "great cars" that populate many auctions and concours.

I have never seen a Voisin C28 Aerosport, but the pictures I have seen do not turn me on. It may be the photography, but it doesn't seem to flow. It seems bunched up. I get a similar feeling from the present-day Audi TT. The writer of the sited article needs to check his math too. It isn't over80 years old.
