The American Auto: It Wasn't Always Billion Dollar Losses and Plant Closings

I am constantly amazed at the number of ways authors and publishers create new books about automotive history. What can be said that hasn't been said before? Ah, but it's not what you say but how you say it. Fortunately publishers with taste recognise that great photography and graphic design can turn the mundane into a work of art. Coachbuilt Press is a small but dedicated company which, in its own words, "creates unique and timeless books of the highest order through the finest writing and photography, exhaustive research and latest printing techniques." A delectable example is The Performing Art of the American Automobile by Jonathan Stein. Continuing the publisher's quote: "against the backdrop of Michael Furman's stunning photographs, award-winning automotive historian Jonathan A. Stein chronicles the cars that marked America's transition from a country of horses to one of horsepower." The book is based on the cars of the Hendricks Collection, on display at the Gateway Colorado Auto Museum, owned by John Hendricks, car collector and founder and owner of The discovery channel
. In this instance quality is not outrageously priced as The Performing Art of the American Automobile is yours for a mere $60.00.Permalink: The American Auto: It Wasn't Always Billion Dollar Losses and Plant Closings
