BMW

An unabashed romantic, I have to admit that whenever an opportunity comes along to feature the BMW 2002, I grab it. This photo, taken at the 2006 Concorso Italiano (which gracefully allows a paddock of "other" makes), is a good example. The 2002 played a part in my personal history, purchased new in New York in 1968 when I was an ad writer for JWT, working on the Ford account. I can now safely admit that I bought the Bimmer from funds earned moonlighting for a Philadelphia ad agency (non-automotive). A few years prior, I'd tested a BMW 2000 sedan for Canada Track & Traffic magazine and was so impressed that when the 2002 was launched in America I couldn't resist. Remarkably, when JWT transferred me to London as creative director of the European Accounts Group (mostly Ford of Europe) the agency included the 2002 among our personal effects. At that time "the car" to own in trendy Chelsea, it was great fun (even with LHD), got us many admiring smiles, and served my family well. If ever a poll is taken for the best sports sedan in history, the 2002 will get my vote.

not only are they great little memories of a time that was turning for the company, but they are just awesome cars out right. what else makes them so great is the fact that bmw mobile traditions recoginizes all the greatnesss of the 02 and makes pretty much every part for restorations or fixing these cars. I love my 02. i wouldn't get rid of it, just buy more of them. ;)

Agreed... but I'm a terrible sentimentalist where old cars are concerned. Will do a piece on the 1750 GTV soon.
