How can you not want to own and drive this beautiful mid-50's sports car? Of course you would. Unfortunately you can't, and it's not a true classic but a prototype for a very limited run of 12 new cars developed by the Huet Brothers of the Netherlands. Amazingly they'll not be for sale but will be rented to experienced classic car drivers for participation in luxury touring adventures, starting in 2008. At a stiff price, of course. According to an item in Classic Driver magazine the brothers, Paul and Tino Huet, decided to produce a series of cars that would evoke memories of the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and LeMans racers from the 1950's. Unlike retro cars cloaking modern machinery the Huet HB will be built around a Triumph TR6 chassis and straight-six engine, with the latter tuned to develop 180 hp. In one nod to contemporary technology the body is of carbon fibre while extensive use of aluminum is used throughout, the result being a high power-to-weight ratio. Overall, however, the intent is to simulate the same kind of noise, vibrations, and handling that characterised the Aston Martin DBR1, Maserati 300 S and Ferrari 412 S racers of old. Fortunate are those with the cash and the experience to be placed on the waiting list for a run in the Huet HB.
