To me the name Carmel has always meant a colourful seaside town in California, home of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Now I learn there's a Carmel, Indiana and it, too, is home to a festival of classic cars. A quick search on the Web revealed that Indiana's Carmel is located just north of Indianapolis and judging by what I saw on Google is every bit as pretty as the California Carmel, though unique in its own way. I'll confess that my own knowledge of Indiana is limited to the 2008 Model T Ford Centennial Party, where I was privileged to be a guest of the Ford Motor Company.
I wish I could return this September 11th, for the Clarian North Artomobilia sponsored by Tom Wood Automotive promises to be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the art and design of the automobile. They tell me that more than 200 classic cars will converge at this free outdoor festival, where the variety of vehicles on display includes everything from exotic imports to rare collectibles to American muscle cars.
This much I do know about Indiana: it's an historic center of automobile design and manufacturing and motor racing, and for that reason alone I would expect that Artomobilia will have some remarkable cars on display. Unfortunately it's a long way from my home on Canada's west coast so I won't be there, but if you live within driving (or flying or bussing or railroading) distance, be sure to visit Artomobilia on Saturday, September 11th from noon to 6 PM. It's located in the Carmel Arts & Design District. The mere fact that there is such a district tells me that the other Carmel must be a happening kind of place.
