The Vehicles of WWII

The Victory Museum

I often think of starting a classic car museum here in Sidney, BC. Great tourist attraction. A few minor problems get in the way, though. I have no cars to contribute, no funds to begin such an undertaking, no experience in curating or managing a museum of any sort. With that in mind I was stunned to learn there are no less than four auto museums in and around the small city of Auburn, Indiana. Historian Mike Davis has been writing an interesting museum series for theCarConnection and this week tells us about the WWII Victory Museum which he says is “specializing so far in vehicles, including, notably, rarely seen prewar European cars used by the German Army as staff cars.” He mentions a “1930s Auto Union convertible painted in Wehrmacht camouflage,” a “U.S. Army olive drab 1942 Packard Clipper, purportedly General Dwight Eisenhower’s staff car,” and a vast collection of military vehicles from all sides of the combat. Check Mike’s Museum Hawk article here.
