As one who invariably cheers for the underdogs I’ve developed an affection for cars that other critics often deride. For example, I like those boxy Chrysler products from the 50′s that were too tall because Chrysler head K.T. Keller was reluctant to take risks. He insisted car profiles had to be high enough to accommodate men’s hats; in those days men wore fedoras whenever they wore a suit. (Think they look silly, modern guy? Have you noticed all the me-too’s in baseball caps lately?) During Keller’s time, engineering reigned supreme and such advances as power Steering and the Hemi engine kept customers buying until Chrysler finally created its “Forward Look.” Here’s a tip of the hat to “Too-Tall-Keller” and a 1954 Chrysler Windsor.
