Vintage Racing
by Philip Powell on October 13, 2006
Although hundreds of vintage races happen each weekend and in spite of the fact that such events have a loyal enthusiast following, the sport is all but unknown to anyone else. Until this weekend, that is. Speed Channel will be televising the 2006 Rolex Monterey Historic Races Friday through Sunday (see times below). I was there and believe me, it's a fabulous spectacle of historic sports, racing, F1, CanAm and TransAm cars from the teens through the seventies. As I often remind people, this is real racing, not a parade, with talented drivers and rare machines that would otherwise be sitting in a museum. Here's your chance to see how race cars from another era looked (and sounded!) and the racing is exciting, so don't miss it. Note: The weekend referred to here has passed since this blog was created but Speed will feature the Monterey Historics again on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 pm EDT (12 pm PDT).
