Romantic Notions

Look closely at the label on this bottle of Twin Fin Pinot Noir and you'll spot a 1968 Plymouth Valiant convertible. It's not the first time the automobile has been associated with wines, although it may be a first for wine labels. Former F1 star Maurice Trintingant invested his winnings in a French vineyard and although I can't say for certain that his wines are currently available in North America, they were at one time. F1 and Indy 500 Champion Mario Andretti now markets a Napa Valley wine under his own name, though I've yet to sample a bottle. Vintage wines, vintage cars... a marketing natural and I'm surprised that more hasn't been made of it. Incidentally, the Toronto Globe and Mail's wine critic describes Twin Fin Pinot Noir as "a remarkable achievement for less than $20.00."

Love the label on the wine. The Valiant pictured is a 1965 model. A more appropriate car in my opinion would have been a 1957 Chrysler 300 which actually had some fins on it, but it was probably the wrong demographic and would have looked ridiculous with a surfboard jutting out of it.

John Mopar is correct. It's a 1965 Valiant convertible. There are still many Valiants being used as daily drivers today. You just can't kill the slant six, you can only murder it. The car was perfect for surfers. Cheap to own drive, great for board transport. Check out the web site for the wine. The Cabernet and Pinot Grigio are my favorite.
