Voisin (voah-sehn) Inspires Chrysler

1935 Voisin

One of the many delights of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the organiser’s annual selection of “honored” marques. For 2006 there were two fabulous names to be admired: Delahaye and Voisin, both from France and both little known to anyone other than classic car enthusiasts and historians. I was amazed to see the variety of Voisins on display, for this car is extremely rare. But that’s where Pebble Beach scores highly, as car owners all over the world deem it a great honour to be invited. I was also pleased to see, for the first time in the metal, a Voisin, as proof of a claim I made during the last of my nine years as the About Cars Guide, that this car’s design influenced Chrysler’s current 300. Think I’ve lost my marbles? Place images of the two side-by-side and tell me you can’t see it. Voisin was a successful aeronautical engineer who believed the principles of aerodynamics could successfully be applied to the automobile, in this instance a 1935 Voisin C28 Aerosport Coupe.

  • Hi there…

I think you should google for a Rover P4 or P5 and you’ll see where I think it came from…

    cheers

Actually, when I wrote the article in About Classic Cars comparing the Voisin to the 300 I also included a photo of a P5, which, I agree, is remarkably similar. Thanks for your comment.
