Our friends the Merrygolds at the UK's The Open Road are continuing to give away free drive time in a classic sports car. Mind you, there's a small catch. You must first enter a contest. Not to worry... be first to get the right answer in this month's contest and you've got the use of an exquisite Triumph TR6 for a day. The Open Road is celebrating 10 years in business by providing 24 hours in a different classic for each of ten months and we at Classical Drives (who can only look on with envy from our Canadian west coast perch) consider it our duty to update you whenever the next month's sports car is made available. Because maybe you live in the UK and it's a relatively simple matter to drop into their offices, or perhaps you're a North American on vacation and would like to try a dream drive for a day or a week.

I have the impression this car is one of Tony and Elaine Merrygold's favorites, based on their comments: "Our Triumph TR6 has been the subject of a complete body-off restoration from 1988 through the early 1990s. The car won the moss award for Best TR at the 1993 Classic Sportscar Show and had covered less than 5,000 miles between then and 2001 when we bought it... has been driven all over the country by our customers, including a Canadian couple who took it on the Three Castles Tour of North Wales. We have driven it on the MSA Euroclassic five times. The 2003 Euroclassic took us across the Pyrenees to Valencia in Spain and in September 2004 the TR6 took us on the Euroclassic from Paris to Florence, via Monaco, without missing a beat." In case you think this rental TR6 has been driven when it should have been kept under cover, the Merrygold's add that "most classic cars run better for being used and we think this counts as 'using' our TR6 properly." I can assure you that all their sports car classics are maintained in perfect condition and none go on the road unless they're able to return in like condition.
